The Winner Is....

I just sent this letter via email to everyone who donated to the FUNdraising Fabric Giveaway….

I want to once again thank you all for your generous donations towards Relay2009. Today is the final day in Relay 2009, and as promised, I have a winner to announce for the FUNdraising Fabric Giveaway.

First a few facts. With your help I raised another $375 towards my goal, and I met that goal thanks to you all. Better still, the Delaware Quilts team ended up in first place for the year. There is no glory in that achievement. Actually it is more of a challenge to all of the event teams, showing them that the Delaware Quilts team is fighting cancer all year round, not just during the actual event. And we certainly didn’t do it for any awards or recognition; we did it purely to help fight cancer.

And it sure sets the stage for another busy fundraising year in 2010.

Of those of you who donated, I personally know six, six of you are on one or more of my Yahoo Groups, including Mysteries For Relay, and three of you are total strangers, people who are not in my email address book or to my knowledge someone I have ever heard from before.

Six of you donated in memory of someone. I am promising you each right now that I will light a luminaria in that person’s memory at the 2010 Relay.

Each one of you donated for a reason, other than just a chance to win a box of fabric. Thank you.

The lucky winner has been notified by email….. Barbara W from New Jersey!

Tomorrow is

Tomorrow is the last day of August.

Tomorrow is the last day of my FUNdraising Fabric Giveaway It was a good idea that popped into my head back then, and it has brought in almost $300 in donations. Thanks to all who donated and good luck.

Tomorrow is the last day of Relay 2009. When our year started we had no Relay location, and weren’t 100% sure there would be a Relay in 2009… but there were enough of us who wanted it and a lot of people who made it happen. At closing ceremonies we rejoiced in reaching $100,000 and we will end the year at $124,740.

Tomorrow is the last day of fundraising for 2009. When the team started this year we set what we felt was a realistic goal of $2500. Times were tough, and we didn’t want to set the goal so high it was unrealistic. Thanks to many generous donors, and one very generous sponsor, on Friday we reached $10,349.

Tomorrow one lucky donor will win a big box of batiks.

Tomorrow I will run all the yearend reports, and put Relay 2009 behind me.

And tomorrow I will continue working on Relay 2010… we’ve already started, we are ready!

Moderating comments

I never thought it would come to this, but after a warning from another Blogger and quilter friend, I am now moderating the comments people make here. Apparently some smartie has figured out a way to spam blogs, by making multiple comments with links to his/her site. … and when I look I find that sure enough I have one, no three such comments from a susana who probably isn’t a real person anyway. I did think it was strange “she” left the same comment three times, LOL! Thank goodness I didn’t get the hundreds of comments like my friend did….

Interestingly, most of the comments I get on my blogs come from real people I know, either in person or for many years as internet friends who I have not had the privilege of meeting yet. And most of the comments usually come to one of my many (way too many) email addresses. Sometimes it is from someone I haven’t emailed or talked to in a long time, and after her comment we get into an email dialog, or if I happen to know this person’s phone number, I’ll pick up the phone and call her. I like the Blog for that reason, it helps keep me in touch with people.

When I started this it was new, well ok.. new to me… I know I signed up for a Blog when people starting talking about them, just to see what it was, and then decided I didn’t need it, until months later when another conversation came up about Blogs and I decided I should do something with mine. I decided it should be just thoughts, ramblings of mine, and that’s pretty much what it is. I’ve visited lots of other quilting Blogs, and see that some people use them to teach, some to share ideas, some to share photos… I do all of that, well maybe not here on the blog, but on the internet for sure.

And recently someone suggested that I do a mystery on my blog, since I like giving mysteries on line. I have a Yahoo Group, Mysteries For Relay, where I do mysteries in exchange for donations. For that reason I probably won’t do one on here… but who knows, I might start adding some of my favorite tips. One thing I know I will do again sometime… another FUNdraising Fabric Giveaway. Maybe not batiks, but something very nice. So far this month I’ve raised $487 towards Relay 2009. Thanks to everyone who has donated, and I’ve added some more batiks to that box!

And Relay 2010 starts September 1st!

Yesterday was a big family wedding which we choose not to go to because we were afraid someone would make a scene. Apparently she did that anyway, but that’s the way she is. I’m sorry we missed the happy occasion.

Fortunately some of the family understood why we didn’t go. Hopefully someday the rest of them will also.

All I can say is that I wish the happy couple years of happiness together, and much more!

Several people have asked for updates

The “family matter” is tied up in the courts now. There is no update, and won’t be until sometime in September. I have no reports on my friend…

The FUNdraising fabric giveaway has brought in over $250 in donations so far, someone is going to win a great box of fabrics.

Today I was working on my web site, and realized I was almost out of room. So I checked my server for upgrades and get this…. I went from 200mbs of space to 50gbs of space and greater bandwidth…. high speed high tech. Should take me a while to use up all that space! Best of all, it is costing me $2.00 LESS each month than it was before I upgraded… yes less!

I am working on new mysteries, three at a time. Not sewing, just doing the graphics and instructions. The sewing room upstairs is a bit warm to work in, so I’m staying where it is cool. I am 15 months ahead in BOM pages.

And I have company… Mufasa has been here for a few days now and is quite at home here. His favorite place to sit, except when the sun is coming right in, is the window by the humming bird feeder. He seems to think that he’ll catch one sooner or later… although I’m not sure he would know what to do with it when he did.

FUNdraising Fabric Giveaway

I’ve decided to do some FUNdraising with some of my fabrics. I’m going to send a USPS Priority Flat Rate box to some lucky quilter.

But here’s the deal… you have to donate at least $5 to my Relay For Life web page,
http://main.acsevents.org/goto/MargeGordon09

Every time someone donates $5 this month, I will put more fabric in the box. When the smallest Flat Rate Box is full, I will move it all to a larger box, and add more, until the end of the month OR until a large Flat Rate Box is full.

Now we’re not talking scraps here, quite the contrary. I have good stuff including Bali Marbles and Batiks. The smallest pieces will be fat quarters I promise!

When a large Flat Rate Box is full, or when my generous readers have donated at least $100, I will post a photo of the box unsealed with all the goodies inside! (HERE IT IS AS PROMISED!)

The winner will be chosen randomly on August 31st, the end of the 2009 Relay For Life year. I will announce the winner here on my blog.
