I came to a realization today, school starts soon, I can tell because our neighbors who run school busses are busy getting them cleaned up and ready for day one. For the first time in way too many years, I will not be sending a child off to school. Wow… even typing it now it seems so unreal. It was way back in 1986 that we sent the boys off to what was called “Mother’s Day Out” in our neighborhood in San Antonio. Jonathon was four and we didn’t know what school would be like in England (all day or what?) so we sent him out to get used to being away from home. And Mike soon followed him, mostly so he could also see what it was like being away from home, but mostly so he could learn how to play with other kids. He played well with Jonathon, but was so mature for his age we wanted him to learn to play some.

Both boys loved “school” and were more than ready to start when we arrived in England. Jonathon started kindergarten and Mike attended pre-school on base. A year later Jonathon was full time, and Mike started school in the British school system…

And now they are both finished….for now at least. Someone once had this on a signature line, and I saved it, it applies here. “Life is a succession of lessons, which must be lived to be understood.” Ralph Waldo Emerson

Keep on learning!
